Bullet-hit student dies

Behrampore, Feb. 9: A student admitted in a Calcutta hospital after a BSF jawan fired at him last month at Murshidabad’s Nimtita died today.

Siddhartha Sinha, who was to appear in this year’s Madhyamik examination, was one of the huge mob — mainly comprising students of his Nimtita High School — that chased the jawan after he had thrashed their schoolmate for running into him on his bicycle.

Umit Singh, a member of the BSF’s intelligence wing, was suspended after the incident on January 18. A panicky Singh had shot at Sinha, piercing his chest. Another bullet had grazed another student, Swarup Das.
