Bengal beat Tamil Nadu to title

Bengal emerged champions in the all-India postal meet, notching up a comfortable seven-wicket win over Tamil Nadu in the final at Eden Gardens Friday. Restricting Tamil Nadu to 96, the hosts got past the target in just 27.3 overs.

Bengalís P. Mukherjee and Tamil Naduís M. Arebagan were adjudged best bowler and best batsman of the tournament, respectively.

BRIEF SCORES: Tamil Nadu 96 in 42.2 ovs (C. Saktivel 27; P. Mukherjee 2/7, A. Basu 2/18). Bengal 98/3 in 27.3 ovs (Amitava Roy 28, B.K. Majumdar 25). Bengal won by 7 wkts.

University meet

Calcutta University will organise the knockout stage of the Vizzy Trophy cricket meet from February 11 to 18 in the city. In the semi-finals, East Zone will face North while West take on South.

Kajaria shines

Anant Kajaria hit 16 sixes in his 100-ball 183, helping Don Bosco thrash Scottish Church by 127 runs in the Pepsi-CAB inter-school (under-19) meet.

RPG beat Derek OíBrien and Associates 53-27 while Hutch emerged 34-8 victors over TCS in the 12th invitation Mercantile mixed basketball meet at Rangers Club Friday.
