Pak envoy

United Nations, Feb. 5 (Reuters): New York prosecutors have dropped plans to charge Pakistan’s UN ambassador with assault following a violent quarrel with a girlfriend, Pakistani officials said yesterday.

The decision means the US state department will not pursue a request that Pakistan waive ambassador Munir Akram’s diplomatic immunity, enabling him to remain at his current post, US officials said.

The New York district attorney’s office had notified Akram’s attorney that it had investigated the incident and decided against filing charges against the envoy.
