Advocate shot dead in Patna

Patna, Feb. 4: Fresh tension gripped the city today amid threats of a renewed agitation by the Opposition after a 35-year-old advocate was gunned down this morning.

According to the police, advocate Jitender Singh was riding his motorcycle down Digha locality around 9.30 am to reach the civil court, when six goons stopped him and shot him. He was rushed to Kurzi Hospital where he died.

“We have launched raids in the Digha area,” said Patna senior superintendent of police Sunil Kumar.

Hundreds of advocates hit the streets as the news spread and blocked Ashoke Rajpath in old Patna city. Later, the advocates and some student leaders took out a procession, continuing a protracted stir against the city’s law and order situation.

The NDA and MP Pappu Yadav’s supporters have threatened a stir over the murder.

Rabri brother joins politics

Patna, Feb. 4: Prabhunath Singh, the elder brother of chief minister Rabri Devi, has become the latest of her three brothers to join politics. The animal husbandry department clerk in Patna has resigned from his job. Prabhunath may contest the Assembly polls scheduled for next year.

The other brothers are Sadhu Yadav, MLA from Gopalgunge, and Subhas Yadav, a member of the Bihar Legislative Council.
