Farewell till we meet again

Senior students of the institution are busy burning the midnight oil in order to excel in their coming board exams. To wish them luck and best wishes, as they get ready for the their new life ahead, they were given a farewell party by the institution. The students assembled on the grand day to bid goodbye to friends, teachers and juniors with whom they had spent some of the best years of their life. It was a touching moment with the seniors bidding farewell to each other. With heavy hearts and dreams of a happy future they wished us luck.

Creative display

The annual exhibition of St.Michael’s School, Itki Road, was held on February 1 on the school campus. The exhibition was divided into six categories with students from Classes I to VI participating in it.

A “model town” was put up by the students of Class I. Various experiments demonstrating “air has weight and occupies space” and “plants need air” were conducted.

Students of category II exhibited an “ideal village” while other models that drew the attention of the visitors were based on the principles of shadow formation, properties of water and germination of seeds.

To give a touch of colour to the programme the students also drew rangolis.

The students of Class IV focused on “water and its uses” as the main theme.

Along with it, they also made models of the structure of earth and railway signals. Charts depicting the solar system and water cycle were also displayed.

Guests and parents thronged the exhibition to see their children’s inventive creations.

Class VI came up with models of two-way switching system, hydro-electricity generation, human blood circulation system, quiz board and many more.

Heads of some of the neighbouring educational institutions also visited the exhibition and appreciated the efforts of the students and teachers of the institution.

Memorable meet

Traditions become a memorable part of life when you are a student of Sacred Heart Convent School. One such event is the annual get-together organised by the students of Class IX for their seniors in Class X.

The dress code for the evening was formal and the theme was "Magic". The charismatic evening of magic and charm began with the lighting of the lamp, which symbolised the dawn of a new era in the journey of their lives. This was followed by a prayer service where each student prayed for the wellbeing and prosperity of the students and inspires them to pursue their dreams with conviction.

The entire programme was a mixture of skits and dances. A skit was enacted with characters from their English literature course book. The students were amused to see the characters in flesh. A satire on the continuing “K series” on the television made everyone laugh and left the guests craving for more. Dancing along with peppy music and rocking rhythms coloured the evening but the piece de resistance of the event was the fashion show. Keeping the theme in mind, the students organised a fashion show where various monsters were seen walking down the ramp.

Count and Countess Dracula, the mummy, and even the devil were among the monsters seen on stage. According to tradition, the Miss Convent pageant took place with beautiful girls clad in vibrant saris were seen answering tough questions in no time. Reedhima Singh emerged as Miss Convent as Shweta Dutta and Akriti Agarwal were the first and second runners-up.

Purulia wonders

After a long time, the students of Class VIII were taken to Purulia on an educational trip to inculcate the desire to know about the applications of science. We started the trip at 7 am on January 17 along with our science teachers and Science Club members. Despite the biting cold, our spirits remained unaffected. We reached Purulia by around 10:45 a.m. At Purulia Science Museum, the students were treated with several shows, of which The Tara Mandal and Unexpected Science were the most interesting ones. We also visited Fun Science and the Kids’ Gallery and other various sections.

The experimental apparatus was of immense curiosity to the students.

Many officials lent their expertise in explaining the theories of Science. The experiments were based on the application of physics and chemistry in our everyday life. Students also got to see many animals, which made the surroundings livelier. We came across a python some rabbits and monkeys. The children even got to know how Purulia has progressed agriculturally in the 21st century.
