Ancheriís 3 in JCTís 6-2 win

Ludhiana: Star striker Jo Paul Ancheri scored three goals as JCT thrashed Mahindra United 6-2 in the 11th round of the National Football League at the Guru Nanak Stadium on Sunday.

Jaswinder Singh gave the home team a first-minute lead when he shot home a wonderful goal off an I.M. Vijayan pass on the left.

Ten minutes later, Ancheri scored his first goal as JCT raced to a 2-0 lead.

However, Mahindra reduced the margin in the 21st minute through Ednei Jose Damasio. The visitors also got many opportunities to level the score in the first half, but muffed most of them.

Following the break, there was no stopping the home team as Hardip Gill and Harvinder scored apiece while Ancheri added another two to his tally.

The win takes JCT to 14 points. They have so far registered four wins and two draws besides suffering two defeats. Mahindra have 10 points with two wins, four draws and four lost.

Yakubu floors Vasco

Two second-half goals by Ghanaian Yusif Yakubu helped Churchill Brothers beat Vasco 2-0 in a National Football League (NFL) match at Nehru Stadium Sunday. Yakubu, after missing a couple of chances in the first half, scored in 54 and 64 minutes.
