Bhambri tripped by Thai in final

Calcutta, Jan. 25: Unseeded Thai Thassha Vitayaviroj capped a dream week with a double crown at the Grade 3 Pepsodent-ONGC ITF junior championship at DKS on Saturday. Having won the doubles on Friday, she outplayed third seed Saana Bhambri 6-4, 6-2 in the singles final.

The boys’ crown was won by Ukraine’s Dmytri Tolok. The fifth seed got the better of Uzbekistan’s Gafur Ishmato, the third seed, 4-6, 6-2, 6-2.

This was the Indian’s second loss in two ITF junior meet finals. She earned 45 points while the winner got 60.

The boys’ doubles final was keenly contested with Wahyu Trijatisunu (Indonesia) and Kirati Siributwong (Thailand) prevailing 6-4, 4-6, 6-4 over Britons Nick Cavaday and Max Jones.
