Freedom sketch in grey shades

Ranchi, Jan. 24: History came alive in shades of grey as pencil drawn sketches of freedom fighters, along with footnotes, were displayed at an exhibition here.

History department of Nirmala College organised a history exhibition on the “Glorious History of Modern India between the Later half of the 19th century and Early part of 20th century.” Undergraduate students of the department put up write-ups and sketches at the exhibition. Sister Pricylla inaugurated the exhibition.

Nitika Sahay, Smita Mishra, Anamika and Mausami, who worked on “Balgangadhar Tilak” for the exhibition, said: “It was Tilak who showed the path to freedom. However, the means that he had recommended was forsaken by leaders of the next generation, which resulted in the most tragic event of partition.”

Tabassum, Shajia and Shahla highlighted the historical importance of Al-helal, the magazine which played a pivotal role in garnering support of Muslim populace towards the cause of Indian Independence. History department head Ratna Banerji said the exhibition was the effort of the students, who were members of the history association.
