Boxer killed in train mishap

Burdwan: Gaurav Shankar, 17, a boxer bound for the sub-junior national meet starting in Calcutta Friday, was killed in an accident while travelling by train. The incident took place near Khana station. The boxer was leaning out of the train and had his head banged against a pole at about 1.30 pm.

He died on the spot, said Jainal Shah, officer-in-charge of the Burdwan Government Railway Police (GRP).

Local organisers said they were aware of such an accident but couldn’t confirm his death.
