CPM murder blame on ally

Basanti (South 24-Parganas), Jan. 23: Dakshin Jyotishpur village became tense following the murder of a local CPM member, allegedly by RSP activists, over a land dispute. The local RSP has denied the allegations. No one has been arrested.

The victim, Bankim Jana, 50, was the elder brother of Ajit, a local CPM gram panchayat member. His body was found hanging from a tree early this morning. There were several injury marks on his body and he had bled to death, police said.

As news spread, local CPM workers became agitated and blamed the RSP for the murder.

All shops and the market remained closed. Local buses did not ply. Senior police officers have rushed to the spot.
