Sri Lanka eyes Indian tourists

New Delhi, Jan. 22: Sri Lanka is planning to organise a travel mart in May this year to promote tourism jointly with five south Indian states — Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala and Pondicherry.

Indians account for 17.5 per cent of the overall tourist inflow into the country with almost 69,000 visiting in 2002.

Tourism is the fifth largest foreign exchange earner for the country, Gamini Lokuge, Sri Lanka's tourism minister said. “We want to promote Sri Lanka as a good tourist destination point.”
