Leander, Rikl in quarters

Melbourne: The ninth seeded pair of Leander Paes and David Rikl (Czech Republic) moved into the quarter finals of the Australian Open Monday beating the US-Bahamas pair of James Blake and Mark Merklin 6-4, 4-6, 6-2.

Mahesh Bhupathi and Uzbek Elena Tulyaganova made the third round of the mixed doubles beating the Australian pair of Nathan Healey and Evie Dominikovic 7-6 (8-6), 1-6, 10-3 (championship tie-break).

Indians also had a field day in the first round of the boys’ singles with Somdev Burman beating German Rick Schmidt 5-7, 6-4, 6-2 and Kran Rastogi beating Lachlan Ferguson of Australia 6-2, 6-2.
