Watch out for Kalam cavalcade

Take care when you plan your passage through the city on Tuesday, as President A.P.J. Abdul Kalam’s entourage will play traffic-stopper at various points through the day. This is where all the President’s men will be on January 21:

48.15 am: Ramakrishna Vivekananda Mission, Barrackpore, to meet schoolchildren

410 am: Oberoi Grand, AGM of the Aeronautical Society of India

411.35 am: Netaji Indoor Stadium, the CII meet for schoolchildren

41.05 pm: Raj Bhavan, to interact with Loreto Day School, Sealdah, and Calcutta Foundation students

43.54 pm: St Xavier’s College, for the Summit of Joy, the World Congress of Jesuit Alumni

45.10 pm: Netaji Bhavan, to tour the rooms and the museum

46.10 pm: Kala Mandir, Indian Chamber of Commerce meet

47 pm: Dum Dum airport.

With eight stops in nine hours, traffic movement will be thrown out of gear on all city streets through which the Kalam cavalcade will pass, warned the police on Monday, hours before the President arrived in the city.

Several other important thoroughfares will also be blocked, according to the guidelines drawn up by the Special Protection Group (SPG).

“Tuesday being a working day, traffic services will definitely be affected, but we have to make all arrangements that the SPG wants,” said M.K. Singh, deputy commissioner of police, traffic, while requesting Calcuttans to bear with the disruptions.
