Mobile links restored

New Delhi, Jan. 19: In a major respite to consumers in the capital, telecom services cell to fixed line and vice-versa became normal after a disruption of more than 48 hours with all links between the private cell operators and state-owned MTNL up by afternoon today. The cellular operators have sought a meeting with communications minister Pramod Mahajan on his return from Egypt and South Africa to brief him about the situation.

Inflation rises

New Delhi, Jan. 19: Sharp hike in diesel and petrol prices saw the inflation rate shoot up by 0.32 per cent for the week ended January 4 from 3.34 per cent a week ago.

Air-India fleet

Mumbai, Jan. 19: The Air-India board will meet here on January 24 to decide on the acquisition of several 160-plus seater aircrafts costing $ 1.5 billion over the next seven years, even as it is contemplating a proposal to reduce its order on long range planes.

WTO strategy

New Delhi, Jan. 19: The government will strive for a common strategy at the World Trade Organisation (WTO) with like-minded countries to mount pressure on advanced nations to substantially cut farm subsidies besides improving market access, said agriculture minister Ajit Singh before his departure for Geneva for talks on the issue.
