Good day for Paes and mates

Melbourne: Leander Paes had a successful day at the Australian Open Friday, winning both his menís doubles and mixed doubles match.

Paes and David Rikl, the ninth seeds, advanced to the third round with a 7-6 (7-4), 6-1 shutout of Moroccans Hicham Arazi and Younes el Aynaoui.

In mixed doubles, Paes and the legendary Martina Navratilova cruised into the second round dismissing Aussies Scott Draper and Lisa McShea 6-3, 7-5.

Mahesh Bhupathi and his Uzbek partner Iroda Tulyaganova also had a facile passage to Round II.

They ousted Brian MacPhie (Australia) and Rika Fujiwara (Japan) 6-2, 6-2.

Bhupathi and Joshua Eagle got knocked out of the first round of menís doubles.
