US lesson for CBM tech

New Delhi, Jan. 14: A high-level delegation comprising petroleum secretary B. K. Chaturvedi, coal secretary N. K. Mishra, Coal India chairman N. K. Sharma and director general of hydrocarbons Avinash Chandra has left for the US to get a first-hand feel of the coal-bed methane segment.

The team will undertake field trips to see the technology in use and also look at the safety regulations that have been put in place.

Coal-bed methane (CBM) is a new area for India. The US and Canada are about the only two countries that have successfully tapped the gas.
