Rebel attacks

Imphal, Jan. 12: Manipur People’s Liberation Front militants attacked BSF troops at Sendra, Moirang Lamkhai and Phubala in Bishenpur district in separate incidents last night, reports our correspondent.

The rebels also launched an attack on the CRPF post at Lamsang in Imphal West district last night.

The MPLF, the umbrella organisation of three major insurgent outfits of Manipur — the Revolutionary People’s Front, United National Liberation Front and the People’s Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak — said there were no casualties on its side.

The MPLF launched an armed campaign against security forces on January 8 with its guerrillas engaging BSF troops in a fierce gunbattle at Sajik Tampak vale in Chandel district bordering Myanmar for three days. The gunbattle ended yesterday after the BSF withdrew.
