Ritwik, Navneet in final

Top seed and senior national champion Ritwik Bhattacharya of Delhi and Capt.Navneet Narain of the Services will meet in the East India squash championship final Sunday.

In Saturday’s semi-finals Ritwik beat Bengal’s Dalip Tripathi 9-6, 10-8, 9-0 and Narain overcame teammate Capt. Anuj Kalia 6-9, 10-8, 5-9, 9-7, 9-2.

Under-19: Amjad Khan (Delhi) bt Farhan Khan (DSM) 9-6, 9-3, 9-5; Naresh Kumar (DSM) bt A. Rampuria (Bengal) 9-0, 10-9, 9-7. Under-15: Naresh Kumar bt Ramit Tandon (Bengal) 9-3, 9-1, 9-1; Farhan Khan bt Pratik Baweja (Bengal) 9-5, 9-4, 9-3.

Player banned

The CAB has suspended Aryan player Naseem Ali for the rest of the season for misbehaving with the umpire in the recent senior division cricket league match against Kumartuli. Ali will also have to sit out the first three matches each in next season’s league and knockout tournaments.

The CAB’s cricket committee met Saturday and took the decision though the player didn’t turn up despite being informed.

Aryan officials said the club had already suspended Ali.

State eves win

Bengal have won the national sub-junior (under-13) girls’ cricket championship in Indore. In Friday’s final, Bengal beat Andhra Pradesh by nine wickets. The team returns to the city Monday.

CAB league

Subrata Ghoshal’s 187 (8x6, 12x4) powered Shibpur Institute to 416 for nine on the first day of their CAB senior division league tie versus Belgachia United.

Tanmoy Bag hit 92. Mohammedan Sporting’s Abakash Khatua scored an unbeaten 128 against Suburban in another match.

Nursery league

Bagha Shome Training Institute beat Mohun Bagan 6-5 in sudden-death to win the IFA Nursery League title at Mohun Bagan ground. The teams were locked goalless after regulation and extra time.

Schools’ meet

Nine teams will take part in the 10th inter-school invitation badminton tournament organised by Mahadevi Birla Girls’ High School from January 14-17. The meet will held at the school’s sports complex.
