Bhupathi, Eagle in final

Calcutta: Mahesh Bhupathi is off to a cracking start with Joshua Eagle. The third seeds made short work of Bob and Mike Bryan Friday to advance to the final of the Sydney International meet.

According to information received here, Bhupathi and Eagle beat the second-seeded American duo 6-2, 6-3. This is the first time Bhupathi is pairing with the Aussie. The two have agreed to be together for the entire season.

In the quarter finals, Bhupathi and Eagle had fought past Andrew Kratzmann (Australia) and Kevin Ullyett (Zimbabwe) 6-2, 3-6, 7-6 (8-6) while in the first round they overcame Spaniards Juan Carlos Ferrero and Tommy Robredo 7-6 (7-3), 6-2.

Bhupathi and Eagle will meet local pair Paul Hanley and Nathan Healey in the title round. The wild cards, who knocked out Leander Paes and David Rikl in the first round, upset fourth seeds Martin Damm-Cyril Suk in the last eight and No. 1 pair Mark Knowles-Daniel Nestor in the semis.
