Ketan bail extended till Jan. 20

Calcutta, Jan. 8: The Mumbai High Court today extended stockbroker Ketan Parekh’s bail till January 20. He was supposed to appear before the chief metropolitan magistrate of Calcutta today. He was arrested by the city police last month for alleged involvement in the Rs 120-crore payment crisis at the Calcutta Stock Exchange, but obtained bail from courts in Mumbai.

Jaiprakash plan

Mumbai, Jan. 8: The board of Jaiprakash Industries Limited will consider a proposal to merge the company and its subsidiary, Jaypee Cement Limited, at its meeting on Thursday.

Opec meet

Vienna, Jan. 8: Organisation of Petroleum Exporting Countries (Opec) will meet in Vienna on Sunday, January 12, after talks this week failed to reach an agreement on how to fill supply shortages caused by a strike in Venezuela.

Indian Hotels

Mumbai, Jan. 8: The board of Indian Hotels Ltd has decided not to discuss the proposal of selling its two hotel properties at its meeting on Thursday. It may take up for discussion the performance of the hotel chain in the third quarter ended December 31, 2002.

ESC office

Calcutta, Jan. 8: The Electronics and Computer Software Export Promotion Council (ESC) today inaugurated its first office in the eastern region. It will promote IT exports from the region and work out strategies to attract investments into the region.
