Mamata boost to Friday bandh

Calcutta, Jan. 8: The Party for Democratic Socialism (PDS) today seemed optimistic about the success of the dawn-to-dusk bandh it has called on Friday against the “misrule” of the Left Front after Mamata Banerjee publicly pitched for the strike.

“Friday’s bandh will be spontaneous since it is aimed at addressing some of the burning issues facing the people,” said PDS chief Saifuddin Chowdhury.

The PDS, a breakaway group of the CPM, has called the bandh in protest against the increase in court fees, water tax and deteriorating law and order situation in the state.
