Satyam, Baan in alliance

Hyderabad, Jan. 7: Satyam Computer Services and Baan have formed a strategic alliance to deliver e-business solutions. Under this alliance, the companies will jointly deliver solutions that combine Satyam’s strategic consulting and implementation services with Baan’s iBaan suite of business solutions in India and Asean region. Meanwhile, Satyam Infoway has changed its name and will now be known as Sify Limited.

Dabur pact

New Delhi, Jan. 7: Dabur India today signed an agreement with Freemarkets Inc to use the latter’s technologies to execute online markets for its procurement needs.

Sahara foray

Mumbai, Jan. 7: The Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority has permitted the Sahara group to enter the life insurance segment and issued 12 letters of intent to insurance broking entities, including three having foreign equity stake, to conduct business in India.

Oil prices

London, Jan. 7: Oil prices fell heavily on Tuesday as leading Opec power Saudi Arabia pushed the cartel to increase supply by as much as 2-million barrels a day, 9 per cent, to fill a gap left by a five-week-old strike in Venezuela.

ICAI chief

New Delhi, Jan 7: Ashok Chandak, president of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) has been elected president of South Asian Federation of Accountants (SAFA) at the 48th assembly meeting of the federation held in New Delhi today.
