Naxalites killed

Hyderabad, Jan. 6: The showdown between Naxalites opposing the Andhra Pradesh gover-nment’s Janmabhoomi welfare scheme and police stretched into the third day today with three People’s War Group activists dying in an encounter.

The encounter took place when a team of the police and the Special Armed Reserves chanced upon members of the PWG’s Krishnapatti Dalam on the outskirts of Bandia Mottu village in Guntur early this morning. The three extremists were killed in an exchange of fire in Palnadu forests.

Elsewhere in the district, PWG guerrillas blew up the offices of a mandal revenue officer and a zilla parishad member.

State director general of police P. Ramulu has arrived in Guntur to monitor the combing operations.
