Sabyasachi advances

On a day of upsets, third-seed Sabyasachi Bose and Nirvick Mohinta of Bengal moved into the third round of boys under-18 category in the MINT-O junior tennis championships at South Club on Thursday. While Sabyasachi beat statemate Mohammed Aqib, Nirvick thrashed Samriddh Burman by identical 6-0, 6-2 margins.

However, fifth and sixth seeds, Samrat Ghosh and Akshay Bajoria, both from Bengal, bowed out, losing their Round II ties to Chandigarh’s Kingsuk Sharma 5-7, 6-3, 3-6 and Andhra’s Siddhath Alapati 3-6, 6-3, 5-7, respectively.

Meanwhile, Bengal’s Shivika Burman and Karina Ahuja reached quarter finals in the girls under-14 and under-18 sections, respectively.

Semi-finalists identified

Calcutta Port Trust, WB Police, Bijoyee Sangha and Friends of the Stadium entered the semi-finals of the state volleyball championships for clubs (men) on Thursday.

State kabaddi

Habra Kabaddi Association beat Murshidabad DKA 70-27 while Chandannangar KA whipped Howrah DKA 67-27 to move into the quarters of the state knock-out kabaddi Thursday.

School cricket

In the SLOBA inter-school cricket, St Lawrence and Don Bosco got walk-over in category A and B, respectively. On both occasions, La Martiniere boys did not turn up.

TODAY IN SPORT
