New Delhi: The opening fixtures of the 115th Pepsi Durand Cup were washed out Wednesday following strong showers all through the day.
The Ambedkar Stadium surface does not have adequate drainage, despite the renovations for the postponed Afro-Asian Games. With pools of water on the ground, the services of jawans will be sought Wednesday to get the ground fit for play.
The Durand committee informed that the opening fixtures between Indian Telephone Industries (Bangalore) vs Army XI and JCT vs Tata Football Academy will take place Wednesday.
Meanwhile, East Bengalís first match against Air India has been pushed forward by a day to Saturday. They are expected to arrive Wednesday.
