Vadodara, Dec. 31 (PTI): The RSS today opposed the disinvestment of HPCL and BPCL, saying it was not in the national interest to sell the profit-making PSUs.

On the Centre seeking the solicitor-general’s opinion, RSS chief K.S. Sudarshan said the Sangh was “clear in its thinking and is not in favour of disinvestment of the profit-making oil PSUs”.

He said Indira Gandhi had decided to nationalise the petroleum companies after foreign oil companies stopped giving crude oil to India during the 1971 war with Pakistan.
