For the first few years after the domicile bar is lifted, at least 30 per cent of the seats should be reserved for local candidates. But all reservations should eventually be done away with. Students who rank around 25,000 and score barely 50 per cent marks in Joint Entrance Examinations are getting admission to colleges now. When they pass out, they surely cannot compete in the job market. So, it’s pointless to persist with such a system in a competitive market.
