Chennai: Bengal’s Mousumi Paul and Pallavi Kundu reached the final of the 64th National Junior and Inter-State table tennis championship when they beat Madhurika Patkar and Mansi Bhagwat of Maharashtra A 7-11, 11-7, 11-8, 11-6 here on Friday.
The other Bengal pair in the semi-finals, Runa Roy and Mun Mun Basak lost to Tamil Nadu’s M. Aparna and S. Sangeetha 11-5, 4-11, 12-14, 11-7, 5-11.
In the quarter finals, Paul and Kundu beat Karnataka’s V.Ranjitha and Navya Ramesh 11-7, 9-11, 11-9, 11-9. Roy and Basak beat another Karnataka pair, B.M. Aswini and Smruti Prasad 11-6, 13-11, 11-8.
In the boys’ section, PSPB’s Arunava Ganguly and Sameer Prabhu beat Delhi’s Ashish Duklan and Nishank Bajaj to make the final. They will meet Uttar Pradesh’s Harshit Chand and Ansul Garg, who beat PSPB’s A. Amal Raj and Zubin Kumar 11-8, 2-11, 7-11, 11-2, 11-9.
The Bengal boys’ challenge ended in the quarters as Soumyajit Sarkar and Saurav Pradhan lost 4-11, 6-11, 6-11 to Ganguly and Prabhu. Niloy Basak and Snehashish Bhattacharya lost 11-9, 11-8, 5-11, 1-11, 10-12 to Delhi’s Duklan and Bajaj. (PTI)
