Farm power set to return

Calcutta, Dec. 27: Power minister Mrinal Banerjee today agreed to restore supply to the pumps belonging to the water resources development department, whose lines had been snapped for non-payment of dues.

Banerjee met finance minister Asim Dasgupta and water resources minister Nandagopal Bhattacharya at Writers’ Buildings today. It was decided there that the defaulter department would pay Rs 8 crore to the state electricity board as part-payment of the dues.

Dasgupta said the operations of deep and shallow tube-wells and river-lift irrigation had been affected due to the power crisis.

It would take a few days to restore supply to the pumps, Banerjee said.
