Kylie is no minnow

London, Dec. 27: Kylie Minogue has marked the end of one of her most successful years by overtaking Whitney Houston and the Beach Boys in a chart of the most popular pop stars of all time.

She has broken into the difficult American market, won two awards at the MTV and Brit awards and become the first whispering waxwork at Madame Tussaudís.

But her leap from 40th to 25th in the Guinness Book of British Hit Singles ó in which rankings are based on weeks spent in the charts ó is no less impressive since the list is notable for its unchanging nature. She rises 15 places due to more than 40 weeks in the charts this year with singles such as In Your Eyes and Come into My World as well as the huge success of Canít Get You Out Of My Head.

At No 1 again this year is Elvis Presley, whose ranking was boosted to 1,185 weeks by the summer success of the dance remix of A Little Less Conversation, which charted for 12 weeks.

In second place is Sir Cliff Richard, who is 30 weeks behind Presley, with The Shadows and Elton John third and fourth.
