Nod to UTI, Sebi Bills

New Delhi, Dec. 26: President A.P.J. Abdul Kalam today put his stamp of assent on six Bills passed by Parliament, rendering them into law.

The legislations are the Unit Trust of India (Transfer of Undertaking and Repeal) Bill, Securities and Exchange Board of India (Amendment) Bill, Delhi Metro Railway (Operation and Maintenance) Bill, Constitution (Scheduled Castes) Orders (Second Amendment) Bill, Consumer Protection Bill and Merchant Shipping Bill.

The UTI Act replaces an Ordinance promulgated in October and provides for its transfer to a specified company to be registered under the Companies Act.

The Sebi Act enlarges its board and confers to it power of seizure with court approval.

The Scheduled Castes amendment order is set to “expand” the list of SCs in states and Union Territories.
