Kelkar report today

New Delhi, Dec. 26: The task force on tax reforms, headed by Vijay Kelkar, is likely to submit its reports on direct and indirect taxes to the finance minister Jaswant Singh on Friday. Kelkar, advisor to the finance minister, was to submit the final report on indirect taxes today but it was deferred, as Singh was unwell. The panel, which has already submitted two consultation papers on direct and indirect taxes, is expected to water down some of its recommendations in the final report.

RBI account

Mumbai, Dec. 26: The RBI has said that resident foreign currency (domestic) account may also be credited with or opened out of foreign exchange earned and/or gifts received from close relatives and repatriated to India through normal banking channels by resident Indians.

Exim policy

New Delhi, Dec. 26: Kick-starting the preparations for the exim policy, commerce and industry minister Arun Shourie will meet representatives of the industry on Friday.

Drug prices

New Delhi, Dec. 26: The National Pharmaceutical Pricing Authority has reduced prices of 50 formulations, while increasing prices of eight formulations including insulin and anti-biotic penicillin.

TDSAT chief

New Delhi, Dec. 26: Justice D. P. Wadhawa has been appointed as chairperson of Telecom Dispute Settlement and Appellate Tribunal (TDSAT).
