London, Dec. 21 (Reuters): Champions Arsenal eased to a comfortable 2-0 home win over Middlesbrough on Saturday, extending their lead at the top of the English Premier League to two points.
Goals by Sol Campbell and Robert Pires at the end of each half took Arsenal to 39 points, two ahead of Chelsea, who cruised to a 2-0 victory over Aston Villa at Stamford Bridge.
Newcastle United moved into fourth, also on 32 points, following their 2-0 home win over Fulham.
Both West Ham and Leeds United drew 1-1 against Bolton and Southampton, respectively. West Bromwich Albion held Sunderland 2-2.
Birmingham City also drew 1-1 with Charlton Athletic.
