Delhi varsity reader shot

New Delhi, Dec. 20: A Delhi University reader was shot dead in broad daylight by four armed youths inside the Shradhanand College campus in north Delhi today.

Four bullets were pumped into the body of M.N. Singh, a 48-year-old reader in the botany department, from point-blank range.

The incident took place on the first floor of the college this afternoon while polling for the executive council of the Delhi University Teachers’ Association was on.

Police said the assailants, who appeared to be in their 20s, were armed with sophisticated weapons. After entering the campus, they met Singh and began quarrelling with him. Suddenly, they took out their weapons and two of them fired in the air to scare away the college staff who had gathered there. The other two youths shot at Singh. Bleeding, he fell on the ground.

Singh was rushed to the nearby Jaipur Golden Hospital, where he was declared brought dead.
