Headmaster son returns after ransom

Barrackpore, Dec. 13: A Class IV son of a headmaster, who was kidnapped from his way to school yesterday morning, returned late this evening after his family allegedly coughed up a ransom.

Police said Hizakat Rashid, 11, was abducted from Purana Bazar in Titagarh, near here, around 11 am yesterday. When Rashid was about to enter Anjuman High School, where his father is also the headmaster, a gang whisked him away.

The kidnappers called up the family around 2 pm today with a demand for Rs 40,000. They also made the kid talk with his parents to affirm their authenticity.

Late this evening, the police found Rashid ambling towards his home. He said “some men” had left him there.

Additional superintendent of police, Barrackpore, K. Jayraman said a probe is on to verify whether the family had paid the ransom amount. The family members refused to talk about it. “We are happy that Rashid has returned home safe,” was all that they would say.
