Ankita in semis

New Delhi: The Indian menís challenge came to an end even as Ankita Bhambri upset Isha Lakhani in the womenís section at the GAIL Asian junior tennis championship on Thursday.

Ankita, a wildcard entrant, defeated Isha 3-6, 6-3, 7-5 in a two-hour battle. In Fridayís semi-final, Ankita will meet Kartiki Bhat who ousted Korean Heesun Lyoo-suh 6-3, 6-3 in an hour and 25 minutes.

Sixth seed Tara Iyer lost to fourth seed Yung Jan Chan 7-6 (7-1) 6-2 of Chinese Taipei, who will meet second seed Sania Mirza, who beat compatriot Marutha Devi 6-1, 6-0, in the other semi-final.

In the menís section, top seed Wang Chen Hseih beat Amanjot Singh 6-4, 6-2, while Somdev Dev Verman lost 6-4, 3-6, 4-6 to Hiu Tung Yu of Hong Kong.
