Jaya calls for joint drive

Chennai, Dec. 9: Tamil Nadu today played down the political fallout of H. Nagappa’s death, reports our special correspondent.

A day after the body of the former Karnataka minister was found in the jungles, chief minister Jayalalithaa reiterated her government’s resolve to crush extremist forces but made no explicit mention of Nagappa’s tragic death in Veerappan’s captivity.

“This shocking incident brings to light the urgent need for the two states to work together to capture the brigand,” Jayalalithaa, who inaugurated a three-day conference of district collectors and police officers here, said.

Last night, after news that Nagappa’s body had been discovered in the Changdi jungles near the Karnataka-Tamil Nadu border, both states had announced the resumption of the joint operations of the Special Task Force.
