Bengal teams move ahead

Chandigarh: Teams from Assam, Andhra Pradesh, Bengal and Maharashtra in both boys and girls sections moved into the quarters of the 64th sub-junior national and inter-state table tennis championship being played at Sirsa on Wednesday.

While Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat, Tamil Nadu and PSCB complete the list in the last eight stage among boys, from the girls section, other teams to reach the stage were Pondicherry, Karnataka, Haryana and Delhi.

In the sub-junior girls’ team events Bengal beat Chhattisgarh 3-0. Assam, Tamil Nadu and both Maharashtra-A and A notched up comfortable wins against their rivals. Bengal sub-junior boys also routed Bihar 3-0.

In the cadet team championships, both Bengal girls and boys recorded identical 3-0 victories against their opponents. While the girls beat Maharashtra B and boys routed the Punjab team.
