Railways win national bridge

New Delhi: Indian Railways (B) lifted the prestigious Ruia Trophy beating Formidables from Delhi by 73 imps in the final of the national bridge championship at the Sutlej Club in Ludhiana Sunday.

The Railways side comprising Manas Mukherjee, Pritish Kushari, Subir Majumdar, Rana Roy, Sumit Mukherjee and A.N. Banerjee scored 185 imps while the Delhi team could manage only 112 imps in the 64 board final, played in four sessions of 16 boards each.

The Delhi side, which was down by 68 imps at the half-way stage, however made up 20 imps in the penultimate session.

This was the third Ruia triumph for Railways, the earlier victories recorded in 1992 and 1997.

It was the fourth time the Delhi team lost in the finals.
