New Delhi, Dec. 1 (PTI): Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed arrived here today on a three-day visit during which he would call on Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, deputy Prime Minister L.K. Advani and other Union ministers.
Mufti, on his first visit here since assuming office on November 2, said he would try to build a national consensus for an unconditional dialogue towards resolution of the Kashmir problem.
The National Democratic Alliance government at the Centre should not miss this opportunity, the chief minister said. He pointed out that free and fair election in the state has thrown up a great “opening”. Mufti stressed on his “healing touch” mantra and said there “is no alternative to win over the hearts of the people for ushering in a positive change in the state”.
US ambassador Robert Blackwill begins his maiden visit to Jammu and Kashmir tomorrow, during which he will meet members of the ruling People’s Democratic Party-Congress coalition, besides senior army officials.
