Calcutta clash

Calcutta, Nov. 30: At least eight houses were gutted when residents clashed with local rowdies in Monoharpukur Lane in the Tollygunge police station area late tonight.

Trouble started after Rabin Mistry, 22, a plumber, was allegedly kidnapped by the gang of Kamal Anri, a local extortionist, police said. Rabinís mother Paru said her son was sitting in his room when the gang came and forcibly took him away.

Agitated, residents went to Kamalís house, where the miscreants attacked them. Bombs were hurled during the clash, triggering the blaze.

Six fire engines took more than two fours to control the blaze.

Six persons were arrested in this connection, police said.
