Bandh over BJD leader killing

Berhampur, Nov. 29: A dawn-to-dusk bandh was observed at Gunupur in Rayagada district today in protest against the killing of Jajati Sahu, secretary of the BJDís district unit, by Naxalites at Naira on Tuesday.

The bandh, called by the Rayagada unit of the BJD, was supported by the Orissa Gana Parishad (OGP). Business establishments and several educational institutions remained closed today. Traffic was hampered, but government offices were open. No untoward incident was reported.

Several leaders, including OGP president Bijay Mohapatra, its secretary Jayadev Parida, BJD legislator of Laxmipur in Rayagada district Bibhisana Majhi, state minister and BJD leader Rabi Nanda visited the village to offer their condolences to Sahuís family.

Police said Sahuís killing was the handiwork of the Naxalite faction led by Sabyasachi Panda. Though no arrests have been made, police seized some electronic equipment and batteries from the forest.
