Molest probe on govt officer

Midnapore, Nov. 28: An activist of a Calcutta-based NGO has gone to police accusing a government officer of molesting her.

West Midnapore district magistrate M.V. Rao has asked additional district magistrate P. Bhattacharya to inquire into the alleged incident.

An FIR was lodged at the Kotwali police station here on November 14, the day of the incident. The WBCS officer, on his way from a field trip to Daspur with two members of Sachetana — an NGO working for women’s rights — and another belonging to an NGO called Rural Development Centre, had allegedly tried to molest the woman in her mid-twenties. They had been to the village to oversee the progress of the women’s self-help groups working there.

A hearing was held at the district magistrate’s office yesterday in which members of Sachetana and the “victim” were present.
