November 30 at G.D. Birla Sabhagar; 3 pm: Swayam and Sanskriti Sagar present Jhankar (breaking the silence surrounding violence) — a music concert by school bands. Also, performance by a guest band. December 1 at Sree Thyagaraja Hall; 5.30 pm: Rasika Ranjana Sabha presents a Carnatic vocal recital by Chitra Seshadri (disciple of D.K. Pattammal), with K. Srividya (violin) and K.G. Prasad (mridangam).

Mookerjee Road; 6.30 pm: Natya Shodh Sansthan organises the screening of a video documentary on renowned jatra actress Jyotsna Datta.

POETRY

Today at Srijan rooftop, 176 Sarat Bose Road; 6 pm: The fourth Thursday monthly forum on poetry readings by poets Ardhendu Chakraborty, Joe Winter and Nagendra Chaurasia writing in Bengali, English and Hindi, respectively.

YOUTH ACTION

Till December 10: As part of the International Fortnight protesting Violence against Women, students of various Calcutta schools, in association with Swayam, are initiating an youth action programme where they will participate in a music concert (on November 30 at G.D. Birla Sabhagar), film festival (December 2 - 5 at Max Mueller Bhavan) and a rally in Calcutta on December 8. Today at Swayam premises; 3 pm: Half the sky — an exhibition of posters on violence against and women and girls; interaction with the local community, and a preview of Bol — eight one-min. films on domestic violence.

LECTURE

Today at Shivananda Hall, The Ramakrishna Mission Institute of Culture; 6 pm: Swami Somatmananda will speak on Swami Vivekananda’s Devavani. Today at Eveready House, 2 Rainey Park; 6 pm: Technology Alumni Association IIT-Kharagpur organises a lecture on Global Competitiveness: Re-tooling and repositioning of professional individuals in this scenario by Prof. Ranjan Das, IIM-Calcutta. Today at Max Mueller Bhavan; 7 pm: Indo-German Association Lecture on Various Approaches to Solar Energy Utilization by Dr Samir Kumar Saha, professor of mechanical engineering, Jadavpur University. Today at Ramakrishna Vedanta Math, 19A & B Raja Rajkrishna Street; 7 pm: Swami Samshuddhanandaji will speak on Valmiki Ramayana.

DANCE

Birla Sabhagar; 7 pm: Samskritiki Shreyaskar presents Prathama — the first collaborative Kathak presentation by Debashree Bhattacharya and Vikram Iyengar, disciples of Rani Karnaa.
