Argentina lead pool A

Perth: Argentina lead pool A with six points from two wins after a 5-1 victory over Ukraine in the women’s World Cup on Tuesday.

China and South Korea follow on four points apiece and New Zealand, Germany and Ukraine have one win each. Scotland and Russia have yet to win.

In the match of the day, South Korea shrugged off a virus that has swept through their camp to send Germany crashing to a 3-1 defeat. Lee Jin-hee opened the scoring with a 21st minute before Lee Seon-ok doubled the lead on 55 minutes. Lee Jin-nam wrapped up victory with a soft 62nd-minute effort.

Germany’s Fanny Rinne, who had left the field for treatment after being struck on the head by the ball earlier on, netted the consolation.

In other matches, New Zealand beat Russia 3-1, China triumphed over Scotland 3-0 and Argentina beat Ukraine 5-1.
