An epithet like ‘an outstanding watercolourist...” is sure to increase the adrenaline flow in a youth who is still in his early twenties and pursuing his passion — art — with all the youthful zeal and enthusiasm of a man possessed. At a time when the creative urge is at its all-time high, Subrata Kundu painted tirelessly as if there was no tomorrow. But the words of the critic were prophetic indeed — Kundu gradually blossomed into a talented full-fledged watercolourist. He has participated in various national and international exhibitions and salons and has been honoured with prestigious awards including the GCAC Annual Exhibition, Calcutta (in 1980, 1982 -1985), Indian Society of Oriental Art (1981, 1982 and 1984), West Bengal State Academy and AIFACS, Sahitya Kala Parishad in 1986 and 1989). Now based in New Delhi, the artist is currently in the city to mount his recent works.
