Silver for Rohit

Heraklion (Greece): India’s G. Rohit played out a hard-fought draw against Marcus Ragger of Australia in the final round to clinch silver in the under-14 boys’ category of the world youth chess meet on Sunday.

P. Harikrishna and D. Harika won bronze in the under-18 boys’ and under-12 girls’ categories.

Rohit, who had a poor start in the competition by losing his first game, roared back to finish with 8.5 points to claim the silver. The gold medal in the category went to Luka Lenic who accumulated 8 points. Harikrishna got bronze behind GM Ferenc Berkes of Hungary and IM Shahriyaz Mamedyarov of Uzbekistan.

D. Sai Srinivas was unlucky to miss a medal after scoring eight out of a possible 11 in the under-12 boys’ category. (PTI)
