15 hurt in farm clash

Calcutta, Nov. 22: More than 15 people were injured in a clash between CPM and SUCI workers in Kultali in South 24-Parganas.

Both groups claimed to have been attacked first. SUCI’s Bidhan Chatterjee alleged that a couple was working in the field when armed CPM supporters attacked them. CPM leader Sudhir Haldar, however, accused the SUCI activists of assaulting party workers.

Ten people from both parties have been arrested. Five of the injured were said to be in critical condition.

Freshers’ welcome

Students of Vidyasagar University’s computer science department have organised a programme welcoming freshers to the institution. The deputy high commissioner of Bangladesh and the West Midnapore district magistrate were the chief guests.
