LS concern

New Delhi, Nov. 21 (PTI): Lok Sabha MPs today voiced concern over the plight of sugarcane growers in Uttar Pradesh and sought the Centre’s intervention in ensuring remunerative prices.

Raising the issue during zero hour, BJP member Ram Nagina Mishra said urgent measures were needed to reopen sugar mills. Dharamraj Singh Patel, of the Samajwadi Party, said several growers were resorting to the desperate step of burning sugarcane as most of the mills were being closed down. Congress MP Avtar Singh Bhadana said several farmers were taking the extreme step of committing suicide.
