IAF crash

New Delhi, Nov. 21: An Indian Air Force basic trainer aircraft crashed in Medak district of Andhra Pradesh today, immediately after it took off on a routine sortie from the Air Force Academy in Dindigul, reports our special correspondent.

The trainer and trainee pilot of the HPT-32 piston-driven trainer craft, however, bailed out safely, according to the Air Force press officer. The aircraft crashed into the fields at Vavila village, about 60 km from Hyderabad, agency reports quoted local police as saying. However, there was no casualty on the ground.

and no damage to property, according to Medak police superintendent Sheeka Goel.

Prima facie, the crash took place due to technical reasons, the press officer said. He, however, added that a court of inquiry has been constituted to ascertain the reasons for the mishap.

Air Force officials say this is not the first time that this trainer aircraft has crashed.
